Merry Christmas

I wanted to shop for a Christmas gift, but I didn’t have a penny.
So I tried to drum up some creativity, but found I didn’t have any.
So I hatched a plan to rob Santa and his jolly red sack.
But then I realized it’d be too late to deliver, and you couldn’t take it back.
Then I turned my hand to arts, to crafts, to baking
But as I had no postage, they just weren’t worth making.
I thought, I pondered, I even sought sound advice;
Finally I admitted that nothing would suffice.
All I could give would come from my hand,
As ethereal and eternal as a footprint in the sand.
So all I can give this year, and please don’t think it a crime,
Is my holiday well wishes written in paltry, crummy rhyme.
